Wilmington DE, August 00, 2022 – Rithem Life Sciences, a medical device company that is developing safe and efficacious life-saving portable products, has announced its strategic partnership with Houston-based commercial real estate firm, Boxer Property, for future deployment of its investigational (not FDA approved) automated external defibrillator (AED) – JoltzAED – and to create a wireless platform for a private and public access defibrillator network within select Boxer malls, resorts and commercial spaces.

The JoltzAED is being designed to be nearly half the size and a fraction of the weight of the current leading AED devices on the market. It will be portable, durable and easy enough for almost anyone to use, while still providing the functionality that comes with a professional grade AED. Rithem is developing the JoltzAED to help safely respond to a suspected sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). which is responsible for more than 6 million deaths a year worldwide.

The JoltzAPP which is also under development, is a smartphone application (iOS & Android) that pairs with the JoltzAED. The JoltzAPP is intended to place a call to emergency services and provide them with important information, such as GPS location and ECG updates.

Boxer Property’s deployment of the JoltzAED will enable property managers to deploy more units with ease of monitoring and immediate GPS location of SCA sufferers to staff and Emergency Medical Services personnel. Rapid CPR and early defibrillation are shown to be the most effective life-saving strategies to increase survival in out-of-hospital SCA cases.

Founders Paul and Marian Lepore have joined its Strategic Advisory Board. Lepore routinely lectures nationally on EMS and fire service-related topics.

Marian Lepore, PT, BS, GCS, specializes in program development and creating more effective training curriculums. She established physical rehabilitation department protocols in multiple medical settings before focusing her efforts on EMS Safety Services. As CEO of EMS Safety, Lepore was the driving force behind its rapid growth and international recognition. McDonnell will aid in efforts to provide Rithem’s CPR aid and automated external defibrillator – JoltzAED – to police units across the country.

The Strategic Advisory Board collaborates with Rithem’s leadership team as the company advances the development, sale, and distribution of its portable, comprehensive “high-quality” CPR aid – ResQR and the JoltzAED portable defibrillator. McDonnell joins the Strategic Advisory Board that includes Major General (US Army Ret.) Larry Harrington, Dov Maisel, COO of United Hatzalah (Israel), Paul and Marion Lepore, founders of EMS1 and a former Chief of the Long Beach Fire Department, and A.J. Heightman, editor of the Journal of EMS.

McDonnell has served for almost 40 years in the public safety profession. He is the first person to serve in senior executive leadership positions in the three largest policing agencies in Los Angeles County: the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). During his tenure, all three agencies saw a reduction in crime and improved police-community relations. Beginning his career with the LAPD, McDonnell served there for twenty-nine years and held every rank up to First Assistant Chief of Police. While serving as a street cop in the Los Angeles Police Department, McDonnell earned its highest honor for bravery, the Medal of Valor.

Early in his tenure at the LAPD, McDonnell played an integral role in developing the framework for community policing that would transform the LAPD into a thought leader in community policing strategies. McDonnell continued to build upon this framework throughout his career. He retired from the LAPD in 2010 to become the Chief of the Long Beach Police Department, where he served for almost five years. In 2014, McDonnell was elected as the 32nd Sheriff of Los Angeles County to lead the largest sheriffs department in the United States with over 18,000 employees and manage an annual budget of over $3.3 billion. McDonnell took over an agency that had been shaken by scandal and, in his four-year term, was able to restore public trust, institutionalize systems of accountability, and work collaboratively and effectively with federal, state and, local agencies to combat human trafficking and counter terrorism, among other regional challenges.

McDonnell has served as Vice President of the Major County Sheriffs of America; President of the California Peace Officers’ Association; President of the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association; a board member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police; a board member of the Peace Officers’ Association of Los Angeles County; a member of the Major Cities Chiefs Association; and as a member of the California Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards & Training (POST).

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, McDonnell obtained a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California. He is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Executive Institute and has completed executive education programs at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. McDonnell formed McDonnell Strategies Group in early 2019 to advise clients across the nation on a diverse range of issues involving public safety and leadership development.

Dov Maisel is the Senior Vice President of International Operations for United Hatzalah/Untied Rescue volunteer Emergency Response organizations. He is an active combat medic and a Company Commander in the Israel Defense Forces (Res.), and specializes in a mass disaster, rescue and recovery training for civilians and the military. Maisel is an innovator and inventor of medical technologies and devices implemented in Israel and globally and resides on the International Editorial Board of the Journal of Emergency Medical Services Magazine (JEMS). In addition to his many fields of expertise, Maisel leads Israeli rescue missions to disaster-struck countries such as Haiti and Nepal and has been spearheading international expansion by helping cities all over the world develop community-based emergency response programs based on the model of United Hatzalah.

A.J. Heightman, MPA, EMT-P, is the Editor-Emeritus of the Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS), based out of San Diego, CA. He is also an Adjunct Instructor of Clinical Research and Leadership for the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and a member of the San Diego Fire Rescue Academic Advisory Committee. Heightman served as the JEMS Editor-in-Chief for 25 years prior to being honored with Editor Emeritus status. Prior to joining the staff of JEMS, he served for 17 years as Executive Director of the six-county Eastern PA EMS region in Allentown, PA and then as Director of Operations for Cetronia Ambulance in Lehigh County. Throughout his career in Eastern PA, Heightman also served as a paramedic and EMS command officer with the Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Dept, and he also served as a part-time paramedic for both the cities of Allentown and Bethlehem EMS divisions. A certified EMS and rescue instructor, He has also served on the faculty of university EMS degree programs; community college emergency service training divisions and fire academies in Pennsylvania. Heightman is widely recognized for his work in the area of EMS management and Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) management. He is a graduate of Temple University and received his master’s degree in Public Administration from Lehigh University.

He began his career as a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist at PNI before transitioning to consultative cardiology in 2010. Since then, he has served in several leadership roles including Chief of Staff and Chief Medical Officer of Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica. After serving two terms on the hospital's Board of Directors, Dr. Natterson served as a special advisor to the Board and Chair of the Board's Nominating Committee. Todd Zalut, M.D., trained in emergency medicine in Chicago where he was later appointed project medical director for the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) System of Northwest Chicago. Dr. Zalut first emigrated to Israel in 1990 and was the first residency-trained specialist in emergency medicine in the State of Israel. He returned to Chicago in 1991 to become the co-director of the Emergency Department at Michael Reese Hospital, but eventually returned to Jerusalem in 1993 and served as the assistant director of Terem Emergency Medical Clinics, as a staff physician in the Emergency Department at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, and was enlisted in the Israeli Air Force's elite helicopter rescue unit. In 2002, Dr. Zalut was appointed assistant director of the Emergency Department of Shaare Zedek. Since 2003, Dr. Zalut has been the director of the Emergency Department where he has led the "fastest and most significant growth in the country over the last 15 years." In addition to his work at the hospital, Dr. Zalut also served as medical director of Medassis, a company dedicated to repatriating patients who fall ill overseas and need to be safely transported home.

He is the founder and president of Merkava Holdings, the investment, distribution and advisory arm of his venture capital business. Currently, Dr. Werthman also serves as the executive chairman of Proxamama and chairman of the science advisory board of GT Biopharma, Inc. (OTCQB: GTBP) (GTBP.PA). He has resided on advisory boards of 14 private companies in the life sciences and aerospace/defense industries.

Rithem Life Sciences Cofounder and CEO Jonathan Rosenblum, DPM, serves as a director and is a podiatric surgeon and scientist currently practicing his subspecialty in diabetic limb salvage in Jerusalem. (NYSE: SEI), and he has resided on numerous philanthropic boards, including the national board of governors of the American Red Cross, the Cooper Institute, and Columbia Graduate School of Business.

Mark Genender serves as a director and is a private and growth equity investor and the managing partner of Bristol Growth Capital, LLC. Genender currently serves on the boards of Standard Vision, LLC, QCode Media and Gloss Ventures. In addition, he currently serves as an operating advisor to Torch Capital, an early-stage consumer venture capital fund. Genender’s previous private equity career included senior investment roles at Guggenheim Partners, Star Avenue Capital and Fenway Partners. He is also the president of the Western Region of American Friends of Hebrew University and is a member of the U.S. Investment Committee.

Rithem Life Sciences recently announced its joining the American Heart Association Center for Health Technology & Innovation (the Center) Innovators’ Network to introduce its at-home, hands-only CPR aid and automatic external defibrillator devices (AED) – ResQR and JoltzAED.

Rithem Life Sciences has joined the American Heart Association Center for Health Technology & Innovation (the Center) Innovators’ Network. The Center is focused on building and fostering health technology relationships to develop innovative and scalable solutions.

The Innovators’ Network is a consortium that connects entrepreneurs, providers, researchers and payers. Innovators’ Network members also have access to the Association’s digital guidelines, recommendations, and best-in-class science as they develop digital healthcare technologies. Members collaborate with the Center in different ways, including the building of models for clinical outcome studies, lowering the significant cost of developing those studies independently, helping connect the science to technology, and providing evidence that a digital platform improves healthcare outcomes – a key concern for providers and payers.
